Movement of the moon and Occurrence of tide and ebb phenomenon

The moon

At night, When you look at the sky, you see the Moon, It is the satellite of the Earth. It is a dark body, But it seems bright because it reflects the sunlight which falls on its surface.

The Moon rotates around itself (its axis) every 28 days, and it rotates around the Earth every 28 days (the lunar month).

The Moon’s rotation around the Earth

The Moon rotates around the Earth in a circular path every 28 days. The Moon appears in the lunar month (The Moslem calendar) in different phases.

When the Moon rotates around the Earth, The Moon area that reflects the sunlight changes to form the phases of the Moon.

So, The rotation of the Moon around the Earth causes the occurrence of the Moon phases during the lunar month.

We notice that the Moon phases begin with a crescent, half Moon (half of the Moon is shiny), full Moon, then its other part becomes shiny, then changes into a crescent.

The Moon
The Moon’s rotation around the Earth is every 28 days.

The solar year equals 365 and quarter days, but the lunar year equals 354 days, What is the reason that makes the Moon rotates around the Earth in a certain circular orbit?

Because there is an attraction force between the Moon, the Earth and the Sun.

The tide and the ebb phenomenon

The water represents 71 % of the Earth surface, the tide and the ebb phenomenon occur in the water surfaces (the oceans, The seas & the lakes).

The tide and the ebb phenomenon occurs due to the attraction force between the Moon, The Earth, and the Sun, But the Moon is more effective than the Sun as it is nearer to the Earth.

The tide is the rise of the water level in the water surfaces to cover the seashores, The maximum rising of the water level (tide) is in the half of the lunar month (at the full moon phase), and The ebb is the return back of the water to its normal level after the tide.

The benefits of the tide and the ebb
  1. We can generate the electricity as the flowing and the retraction of the water during the tide and the ebb produces the energy that is used in operating the turbines to produce the electricity.

  2. The water currents result from the tide and the ebb causes the water canals to remain deep.

  3. They clean the coasts as during the tide and the ebb, the water of the seas carries the wastes from the coasts to the bottom of the sea, where they are settled.

  4. The water currents resulted from the tide and the ebb help the ships and the boats to move through the shallow water paths.

The bad effects of the tide and the ebb phenomenon

It causes some bad effects such as decaying of the beaches.
