Drones, Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) uses, advantages and disadvantages

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is known as drone, Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) is an aircraft without a human pilot aboard, The flight of UAVs can operate either under remote control by the human operator or fully or intermittently autonomously by onboard computers.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)

Unmanned aerial vehicles are preferred for missions that are too dangerous or dull for humans, They provide the attack capability for high-risk missions and they originated mostly in military applications.

Unmanned aerial vehicles can be used in other applications such as policing and surveillance, data collection, aerial photography,  agriculture and drone racing, They can be used in commercial, scientific, and recreational.

Drones have many different names, They are referred to as the killer drones and the attack drones, They are called the spy drones or the surveillance drones, They can be both remotely controlled by the pilot or controlled by the computer, and they are used to carry out certain actions without direct human piloting.

The first drone was invented by Nikola Tesla. It was a radio-controlled boat that could be used for reconnaissance and military purposes. It was called the “telegeodynamics.” The first drone to be used in warfare was during World War I. It was a British drone called the “Aerial Target,”and it was used to drop bombs on German ships.

The word “drone” comes from the Old English word “dræne,” which means “male bee.” This is because drones are unmanned aerial vehicles, they are similar to bees in that they fly around without a pilot. The first commercial drone was released in 2006. It was called the Parrot AR.Drone.

The smallest drone in the world is the Axis Vidius, which is only 1.5 inches long and weighs less than 0.55 pounds. The largest drone in the world is the Boeing Phantom Eye, Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV), It can fly at speeds of over 500 miles per hour.

In 2016, the first drone delivery service was launched in Iceland. In 2020, the Guinness World Record for the most drones flying simultaneously was set in China, with over 13,000 drones flying in formation. In 2021, a drone was used to deliver pizza to customers in Iceland.

UAVs advantages

UAVs are Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, They have transformed the idea of air power in modern war times, They are smaller than jet aircraft, They are less expensive, and they don’t put the pilots at risk when they crash.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle offers a less stressful environment, It is used for better decision making, It presents a safer environment, They can fly longer hours as long as the vehicle allows for it (no human fatigue in the plane).

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles can go faster, Even if the plane crashes, The pilot will be safe, They can be used for border patrol security using the software to fly the planes, There is no need for a qualified pilot to fly it, In the long run, They will be cheaper than paying for the personnel to do the task.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are able to fly into zones where it would be dangerous for the pilot, They are capable of flying for long periods of time, They can enter environments that are dangerous to human life and they can reduce the exposure risk of the aircraft operator.

Unmanned Air Vehicles can stay in the air for up to 30 hours, doing repetitive tasks, performing the precise, repetitive raster scan of the region, day after day, night after night in complete darkness or in the fog and under computer control.

Unmanned Air Vehicle performs geological survey, It performs visual or thermal imaging of the region, It can measure cell phone, radio or TV coverage over any terrain, Drone pilots or operators can easily hand off controls of the drone without any operational downtime.

Unmanned Air Vehicles can save lives, They greatly reduce putting military personnel in harm’s way or in combat, They have low cost, They are cheaper to purchase, fuel, and maintain than regular airplanes.

Drones offer low risk, Since drones are smaller and they can fly lower than traditional airplanes, there is less risk to the military hardware, Without the human pilot and they can stay in operation for longer hours of operation without fatigue.

Drones can have more pinpoint accuracy from greater distances thus reducing the collateral damage to the civilians and the infrastructure, Drones are as lethal to the enemy combats as regular airplanes.

Drones can be used in spying, Years before drones were used in combat, Drones have proven to increase surveillance, reconnaissance, and general military intelligence, The drones are easier and faster to deploy than most alternatives.

Drones are used for a wide variety of purposes, including photography, videography, surveillance, delivery, and racing. Drones are used to track endangered animals and monitor deforestation. Drones are used to deliver blood and other medical supplies to hospitals in remote areas.

There is a drone racing league, with races held all over the world, and the fastest drones can reach speeds of over 100 mph. Drones have been used to deliver pizza, and tacos, Drones are used to plant trees and to help with disaster relief.

Drones are being used in a variety of industries, including agriculture, construction, delivery, film-making, and law enforcement. Drones are also being used for recreational purposes, such as racing and photography.

Drones are used to inspect bridges and other infrastructure for damage. they are used to map forests and deliver medical supplies to remote areas in Africa. they are used to search for missing people. they are used to monitor wildlife and track poachers. they are used to create 3D maps and models.

Drones are used to teach students about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Drones have been used to film movies, such as “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”. In the future, drones may be used to transport people and packages.

UAVs disadvantages

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles contain overall budget problems, They are very expensive to produce and keep up (The costs may go down over time though), The human mistake in the remote controls can cause the plane to crash and they have limited abilities.

The computer systems or the software could break down resulting in the loss of a plane and/or casualties on the ground, Losing the plane costs millions, The drones cause civilian losses, drone warfare causes collateral damage in civilian lives and property, as well as the traditional warfare.

Computer malfunction can take place resulting in the loss of control in the aircraft, There is an ethical question on the use of the autonomous system in combat situations especially as the computer can not take the initiative which can result in civilian deaths.

The psychological issue has become apparent in the military use of unmanned Air Vehicles due to the personnel being able to click the button and kill numerous people and then go home, without being in the normal war situation, Drones or the fleet of drones can taken and controlled by the enemy.

Drones cause collateral damage such as killing civilians and damaging civilian property, some cultures believe that the use of drones is not brave and cold-hearted, They are too easy, By making drone warfare very similar to video games, drone warfare makes combat too easy by diminishing ethical decisions.
